Tips for creating links

  1. Outbound links
    • Linking is the foundation of the web.
    • Having an open attitude to sharing information by linking out to other websites demonstrates that:
    1. You are familiar with your field, associated topics, key figures.
    2. You want to provide your reader with further information on the topic you are writing about.
    3. Use meaningful link text e.g. placing the link on key words or phrases, not just names.
  2. Inbound links
    • Publish compelling content and your audience will find you.
    • Internal links
    • How to link effectively:
      1. Add links to text words and phrases that describe what the link is.
      2. Use a link’s title attribute to provide extra information within a link on what the reader can expect by clicking the link.
      3. The title may display as a tooltip and be spoken by a screenreader.
