During the installation process, specialized encryption plug-ins for the Eudora, Outlook, and Outlook Express programs were installed if you have those email programs installed on your computer before you install PGP. When you have generated a key pair you can use these steps to send encrypted email within Outlook.
- Compose a new email message within Outlook as you ordinarily would.
- From the PGP menu, select the appropriate encryption action. Alternatively, within the Outlook Message Window, click the appropriate encryption action button, referring to the following figure. The passphrase dialog box will be displayed.
- Click the Lock button to encrypt the message.
- Click the Quill button to digitally sign the message.
- Click the Lock + Quill button to encrypt and digitally sign the message.
- Click the Keys button to launch the PGPkeys program.
- If the recipient’s public key is available on your keyring, the message will be encrypted using that key. If, on the other hand, the recipient’s public key is not on your keyring, the PGP Recipients dialog box appears.
- Click the Update From Server button to retrieve the recipient’s public key from the key server.
- Enter your passphrase in the dialog box (for digital signatures only).
- Click the OK button. The selected action will be applied to your email message.
- Click the Send Now button within Outlook. Your encrypted email will be sent.
Use these steps to decrypt email messages that you receive that have been encrypted with your public key.
- Open the encrypted email message in Outlook. It will appear scrambled.
- Click the Unlock button in the Message Window. Alternatively, use the Decrypt command on the PGP menu. The Passphrase dialog box is displayed.
- Enter your passphrase.
- Click the OK button. The message will be decrypted.
