Capitalism holds high the promise of free markets, but in America most markets are not free at all, as evidenced by taking a look at just a sliver of activity by a single corporate behemoth. It is when this sliver is repeated over and over again throughout the economy by consolidated corporate entities that eclipses begin their path.
One thing that will prove helpful, as our culture lumbers toward the next millennium, is unfettered access to information we need to make informed decisions about our personal and professional lives. As citizens we must remain vigilant with regard to our information access rights. The twin eclipse of government and corporate interests threatens to obstruct our view, as explored in the next chapter.
