Opting out of Linkedin

I’ve cancelled my Linkedin account. I’ve been meaning to do it for several years but thought I’d give it one more shot with my new position at the University of Minnesota.
Alas, it’s proven to be worse than useless. Like other commentators including Jeff Atwood and Russell Beattie, I’ve found that all Linkedin was really good for was a stream of link requests from people I didn’t know. I refused to link to anyone I didn’t personally know, so my “network” of contacts was comparatively small.
There’s no way to automatically cancel an account, or even do it manually. You have to fill out a form, but my account was deleted within a business day. Konstantin Guericke claims on Robert Scoble’s blog (comment #8) that this is because “it has never made the priority list because there are so few account closure requests....”
If you want to contact a friend of a friend, just ask, and I’ll put you in touch directly. No need for an intermediary.
