There was, according to eyewitness accounts (be sure to read the comments for more eye-witness reports), a police riot in Minneapolis last Friday during the monthly Critical Mass action. Call it a dress rehearsal for next year’s Republican National Convention. But you’d never know it from the report by what’s left of the corporate media in town.
Indymedia has an anonymous report from someone on the scene and a partial list of badge and car numbers as well as a list of those arrested. Again, be sure to read the comments to get the full picture.
Multiple accounts indicate that the police drove their cruisers into the cyclists before starting to make arrests. Video broadcast by WCCO, the local CBS affiliate (sourced from an independent videographer), clearly shows an officer punching a citizen who was not resisting arrest.
Corporate media getting the story wrong is becoming so commonplace as to be laughable. If any proof is needed that independent and citizen media is necessary and vital, this is it.
