Lawrence Lessig’s OSCON 2002 keynote address is available as a Flash 5+ (~8.5MB) presentation.
Lessig knows this stuff so well he performs it as a musical. His refrain is breathtaking in its simplicity and clarity:
- Creativity and innovation always builds on the past.
- The past always tries to control the creativity that builds upon it.
- Free societies enable the future by limiting the past.
- Ours is less and less a free society
Also, take the time to check out Lawrence Lessig’s weblog.
Both are exceptionally well done and highly recommended.
