CNET is reporting that DoubleClick has ceased operations of its user profiling services because of the implosion of the Internet market that never was. Constant criticism from privacy advocates and the U.S. government certainly didn’t help.
DoubleClick specialized in what it called “intelligent” targeting of advertisements to users based on their browsing behavior. At its peak, DoubleClick’s databases contained profiles on 100 million Internet users.
