Accessible activism

Everyone knows that the progressives need a sense of humor. Recently I’ve come across two glimmers that may indicate that we’re actually getting a clue.

First, check out Ben Cohen’s plain-talking assessment of the Pentagon’s budget in relation to our social spending. We can all understand Oreo cookies and Ben’s a flat-out genius for taking this tack in making some of the most important issues of the day both understandable and accessible to anyone.

Next, Michael Moore is gearing up again. Turns out that the turkey featured in Shrub’s secret Thanksgiving trip to Iraq wasn’t a real turkey at all, but rather a prop; an unedible stunt double. Moore has a suggestion for Shrub’s next trip featuring fake poultry. While you’re at it, there’s lots of great stuff at Michael Moore’s unofficial website, corporatecrime.org.

We need this approachability and sense of humor, folks, if we’re going to take back the country.
